An Intimate Wedding at Newport Registry Office with Portraits at Cwrt Bleddyn, Tredegar House and Cardiff Bay
Getting Ready and First Looks at Cwrt Bleddyn
The sun was shining on this beautiful Spring day for Kaine and Tamika, who married at Newport Registry Office before heading out for wedding portraits at Tredegar House — part of a full day that began with a gentle, intimate morning at Cwrt Bleddyn in Newport. This was a very intimate setting, where the couple were getting ready without any of their friends or family present for the morning. Because of this, the pace of the morning was very gentle and allowed us plenty of time to capture photos before their first look. Kaine and I walked around the grounds for some photos of him before I went inside to photograph Tamika, along with the dress, rings and other details.
Tamika had asked for a first look with one of her close family members, which we did just before the first look with Kaine. This joyful moment was really fun to capture and gave us a short “warm-up” before walking to find Kaine, who was a bit further away.
The first look between Kaine and Tamika was one of pure love, with both of them barely able to contain their excitement at seeing each other — a theme that continued right through to their portraits at Tredegar House later in the day. I gave them some space to chat privately after getting some more photos, before heading back to photograph a couple of quick group photographs and a few more portraits.
Wedding Ceremony at Newport Registry Office
Upon arriving at the Newport Registry Office the lovely team there highlighted the various areas of the building and informed everyone how the service would run. The friends and family who were there for the intimate ceremony were full of smiles, waiting expectantly for the service to begin.
The ceremony was marked by the excitement Kaine and Tamika had throughout the entire service, which was highlighted by the registrar. The warm light from the sun only added to the celestial feeling that was already in the room, which always makes my work easier!
Following the ceremony, I took the bride and groom around the inside of the building to capture some quick portraits before heading outside for the confetti throw with the rest of the guests. We then moved on to a few group photos, before Kaine and Tamika talked with their friends and family. Just before we left for their Tredegar House wedding portraits, and after capturing some candid moments, I used the front porch of the building to get a few more portraits of the bride and groom. This was an area Kaine and Tamika had asked to have some photos before their wedding day. I always love it when my couples come with a few location suggestions of their own – collaborating with their vision for the day is a huge part of how I work.
Relaxed Tredegar House Wedding Portraits
When we arrived at Tredegar House we took a gentle stroll around the historic grounds. As we walked, I suggested a number of poses and prompts to Kaine and Tamika, while also capturing plenty of candid moments in between. Sometimes the best photos come from those “in-between” moments, which I’m always looking out for.
As the sun began to set, Kaine asked if we could head towards one of the gates next to the main building. This is where we captured under-the-veil photos, easily some of my favourite to date. Kaine and Tamika were very trusting of my process, which is always very liberating as a photographer. This gave me the opportunity to try a couple of creative photos and to follow the evening light as we wrapped back around the scenic building.
One of the unique things about this wedding day was that Kaine and Tamika had planned for extended portrait time, keeping their ceremony short and their guest list small to maximise how long we had for just the two of them. As a wedding photographer, these smaller wedding days are so much fun to capture as there is plenty of time to get creative while going at a slower pace.
Night Time Wedding Portraits in Cardiff Bay
After a wardrobe change and a short break for a late lunch (at Five Guys!), we wrapped up the day by taking a walk around the dazzling lights in Cardiff Bay. These photos were filled with laughter and real joy. We managed to get a couple of very quick photos inside the Everyman Cinema, before finishing off the walk around the front of Mermaid Quay. So much fun!
